Revealed: Why Conor McGregor has been using an underwater treadmill to prepare for fight with Floyd Mayweather

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Exclusive interview: Matt Foss and Mike McHugh from HydroWorx explain just why McGregor has been using a state of the art swimming pool to prepare for the Mayweather fight</div>
<figure class="featured-media medium-width" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="Image result for Mayweather vs McGregor" height="426" src="https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/sport-preview-conor-mcgregor-v-floyd-mayweather.jpg?strip=all&quality=100&w=1200&h=800&crop=1" width="640" /></figure><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It should come as no surprise that Conor McGregor’s preparations for his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather have been anything but conventional.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
First there were the allegations that he had deliberately doctored footage of his sparring sessions to lull Mayweather into a false sense of security. Then there were the candid social media snaps of McGregor standing in the ring with his hands clasped confidently behind his back, or training in a pair of £500 Gucci swimshorts.</div>
<div data-tracked="true" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
And eyebrows were raised even further when he invited Paulie Malignaggi into his training camp — an old foe who had previously snarled he would “knock McGregor’s beard off” if handed the chance. It didn’t take long for the two men to resume their feud, with Malignaggi quick to quit the Las Vegas training camp, branding it a “circus” and “fiasco”.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But nothing has generated quite as much intrigue as when McGregor recently shared a series of photographs of his workout at the UFC’s newly-built Performance Institute, which depicted him being put through a series of strenuous exercises in a specialised hydrotherapy pool.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The dimly-lit images are nothing if not impressive, and look as though they could be taken straight from one of the training scenes in <em style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Rocky IV</em>.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
McGregor is shown wearing strapping across his chest as he runs on an underwater treadmill, while staring determinedly forward at a large screen positioned in front of him. All around him stand his entourage, holding various pieces of technological equipment as they offer him encouragement throughout his workout.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It’s a far cry from the gruelling early-morning jogs up a mountainside and slogging it out with an old leather heavybag, that used to be synonymous with working out for a big fight. But what is McGregor actually achieving in the images?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
A lot more, it turns out, than simply jogging. “Athletes put a lot of stress on their bodies when they are training at such high-levels,” Mike McHugh from HydroWorx, the company that manufactures the underwater treadmill McGregor was using, explains.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“By training in a HydroWorx, it allows athletes to get a high-intensity workout and maintain cardiovascular endurance in a low-impact environment. The UFC is a movement sport, it’s a cardiovascular sport where strength and power is important. The underwater treadmill gives McGregor the ability to move in all directions just as he would in a competitive situation, but without the significant joint impact that he would experience performing similar movements on land.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“The treadmills work up to 16km/h with the resistance jets and they can challenge you very hard cardiovascularly – but without the joint impact. He could have a very intense workout or choose to run at a moderate pace to flush his system and speed recovery so his muscles are fresh and ready to go the next day.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
HydroWorx is an American company, who have provided products with underwater treadmills and resistance therapy jets since 1998. The company has grown massively since then, with over 30k athletes and patients making use of their technology every day to recover from injuries and health conditions.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But their technology does not only help those in rehabilitation. More and more elite-level athletes are beginning to make use of the underwater treadmills and their hot and cold recovery plunge pools to improve both their cardiovascular fitness and the length of their careers.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“What we have helped to do is to extend the careers of athletes,” explains the CEO of the company, Matt Foss. “As athletes become older the pounding of just running on a field for example, starts to become a lot more noticeable. The benefit of our products is that it eliminates next day soreness: you can work very hard but the next day you do not feel as you would have you completed a similar level of strenuous exercise on dry land.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“And that is why we are seeing more athletes every day using the technology, such as McGregor, because they are now aware of the benefits of the water and the fact that it is less damaging on their joints and their back. So our technology has had a huge impact on the conditioning of elite-level athletes.”</div>
<div class="dnd-widget-wrapper context-sdl_editor_representation type-video" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Although pictures of McGregor making use of the technology quickly went viral, HydroWorx have been supplying top NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, Universities and elite training facilities like St. Georges Park since the late 1990s, and also work with a number of Premier League football teams, including Chelsea, Manchester City, Bournemouth, Swansea, Burnley and Manchester United to name a few.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
And the relentless nature of the football season means that the technology is actually perfectly suited to elite-level football clubs, as McHugh explains.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“I’ve spent a lot of time in England,” he says, “and one of the really interesting things about elite-level football is that the season never truly ends. Top squads are loaded with international players who play in the summer, and football has essentially become a year-round sport. There is a higher emphasis on equipment like ours which will help take care of a player for a full year and help get them through a very long season.”</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It wasn’t long before the UFC decided to get involved, implementing a HydroWorx 2000 pool at the promotion’s brand new Performance Institute, which opened in May 2017 and cost over $14m.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“The UFC had seen a few other facilities that had HydroWorx products and they wanted to replicate what some other elite facilities looked like,” McHugh adds.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“The ability to perform multi-directional movements is obviously critical because the sport demands rapid changes of movements in all different directions. And on our underwater treadmills, you are not limited to vertical movement like you see in anti gravity treadmills.”</div>
</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
HydroWorx might supply some of the biggest sports clubs on the planet — not to mention having some of the world’s most dangerous mixed martial arts practitioners making use of their products — but the company are keen to add that they do not only help international sports stars.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“It’s a really vast market of people that we are helping every single day with our products from children to the aging adult and everyone in between,” says McHugh. “We help everyone from the elderly person who has just had surgery and needs to be lowered down into the water safely on our moveable floor and can walk at slow speeds pain free, to the world-class international athlete.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“And that is what HydroWorx was created to do: to help people. Whether that’s individuals who have suffered life-changing injuries or primetime UFC fighters,” Foss adds. “We are serving all different kinds of people. And that is our mission, to heal and condition the world with the power of water. That is why we come to work every day.”</div>

Even McGregor diehards would doubt his ability to do what no one else has done — defeat Floyd Mayweather.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But there’s no doubting the Irishman’s inner belief that he can stun the world and punish “Money” Mayweather into retirement.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“He will be unconsciousness in four rounds,” McGregor told the Los Angeles crowd in the first stop of a four-city media tour.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“He has never faced this.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The pair will square off on August 27 in what’s arguably the “Fight of the Century”.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Forget the Mayweather-Pacquiao scrap in May that broke the bank, this will smash pay-per-view records.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It’s estimated the fight will make about $606.1 million.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
To put that into context, the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout sold an astounding 4.6 million PPV buys.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Mayweather and McGregor will be swimming in the money, too, pocketing millions.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Mayweather stands to earn $100 million, while McGregor will make $75m.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
McGregor has a net worth of $34m, according to Forbes, earning $27m through winnings and a further $7m in endorsements.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Just add another zero for Mayweather.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
As of December 2016, Forbes estimated the champ has earnt $340m, making him the world’s highest paid athlete for three of the last four years.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The mouth-watering bout is destined to put bums on seats worldwide.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Even the casual punter will tune in, eager to see how the king of the ring fares against the lord of the octagon.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
For what it’s worth, I can’t see how McGregor stands a chance against the 49-0 Mayweather.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
He’s undefeated for a reason, and while in the twilight of his career at 40-years-of-age, he boasts lighting speed and power that McGregor has never encountered in his 24-fight career.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“The Notorious”, a dual-division champion in the UFC, drops bombs and Mayweather won’t want to be on the end of McGregor’s overhand left.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But the question is, can he land a glove on the crafty counterpuncher?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I doubt it.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
One thing’s for certain, boxing is the only way for this pair to settle this argument.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Inside the cage with four-ounce UFC gloves, Mayweather doesn’t stand a chance.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In fact, McGregor would choke him out inside a minute.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.71429; margin-bottom: 1.71429rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

In what might turn out to be surprise of the year in world of sport if Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor announce highly talked about fight between the two of them. According to several reports, the contract has already been signed and Mayweather is likely to announce the fight in a couple of weeks time. The possible date is muted as early as 9th September 2017 in MGM Grand Garden, Las Vegas.<br />
<br />
Although many experts from both Boxing and MMA has rubbished reports and even UFC president Dana White shot down it as a stupid rumour but McGregor did little to make the rumour go away when he posted a picture of “Mayweather vs McGregor” graphic poster. Mayweather has not been in the ring since beating Andre Berto back in September 2015 and he has been out of action for best part of last 8 months. Floyd Mayweather’s trainer father has also suggested that his son is looking at the possible fight between him and that MMA fighter but its not agreed yet.<br />

POSSIBLE DATE<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Saturday, 09 September 2017<br />
VENUE<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>MGM Grand Garden, Las Vegas<br />
BOXING or MMA<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Strictly Boxing<br />
WHY ?<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Since McGregor quoted that he will crush Mayweather in any fight. Mayweather has been obsessed in making him eat his words. On top of that if the fight between the two were to be made it will be highly lucrative in terms of revenue and Mayweather can clear as much as $100 million from a fight which he will definitely win.<br />
table seperater<br />
If the fight were to be made it will be a strictly boxing match and Conor McGregor will have shed atleast 25lbs to fight Mayweather. If that is the case there is no way Conor McGregor can hurt Mayweather when 49 other professionals boxers could not do. Having said that fight between the two makes alot of sense as far as Money is concerned and Mayweather is looking for another $100 million pay day in a fight where he will dictate everything.<br />

Floyd Mayweather Snr on his son fight McGregor:<br />
<br />
Having said that this is a proper mismatch and it might very well be the case of both fighters are using each others name to promote something else. This looks more like a dream than reality but looking at the money to be made from this potential fight and virtually no threat to Mayweather in terms of challenge since it will be a boxing fight we can not really rule it out.<br />
